This documentary film traces the roots of Northern California surfing, which started along the Great Highway in San Francisco. From the lifeguards at Fleishhacker Swimming Pool in the 1940s, to kids growing up surfing today, for more than sixty years people have surfed the San Francisco Bay Area, far from the limelight reserved for the Southern California surf culture. Much like the city of San Francisco, the surf culture of Northern California is full of character, offering its own perspectives on the history and the future of surfing. While the story is rooted in surfing, the film is as much about the history of San Francisco as it is about the beaches that ring the City's outer edges. |
Featuring Jack O'Neill, Rod Lundquist, Dickie Keating, Fred Van Dyke, Jack LaLanne, Robert "Bridlegs" Caughlan, Michael Ho, Bill Hickey, Bob Wise and many many more!
Filmmakers Mark Gunson and Krista Howell will be at the screening to answer questions afterwards.
